Whodunit?

We’re supposed to get between two and six inches of snow today! Thank goodness I wore boots to work.

While driving to work this morning, I found myself listening to the news on one of our local radio stations. They announced a few global and US headlines, and then got down to the business of reporting the local stories. I have always found this part of the news interesting, at least when it is done on this station. They have a list of all the local arrests made the previous day, and they give the names and offenses of each one. So, most of the news broadcast follows this format:

An attempted burglary occurred on the 2400 block of Maple Street in Kankakee last night. 28 year old John Doe of Bradley was caught attempting to remove items from an empty basement by police who reported to the homeowner’s reports of hearing movements and breaking glass. Mr. Doe was found with four baggies of marijuana and a syringe on his person. Bail is set at $40,000.

Seems like a bit of an information overload, especially considering how small this community is. One day, you could be driving along, and hear that an acquaintance of yours had been in a bar fight or domestic dispute or was caught stealing quarters from the Elks hall donation box (that one occurred about two months ago). I feel like I’m listening to the frontier town grapevine more than the news report.
